French Bag | Everyday Simplicity, French Style
The musette has a long history in French cycling. Originally used during the Tour de France, they were lightweight shoulder bags used to hand riders food and drink as they passed. Technically disposable, but made well enough that people kept them as souvenirs.
My French father-in-law still has a few tucked away. He throws nothing out, and finding those old musettes inspired this small project. We’ve recreated their shape and size, right down to the practical simplicity that made them so useful.
Made from cotton canvas, finished with a popper button fastener, and printed by hand in our workshop, this is our first experiment in screen printing on canvas. Ideal for carrying the essentials, or just enjoying a bit of cycling history in everyday life.
